Robbery suspect shot dead in police crackdown in Kawangware, two escape
A robbery with violence suspect was on Sunday night killed in a police crackdown on criminal gangs in Kawangware, Nairobi.
The suspect, who was part of a miscreant gang that was robbing pedestrians of their valuables, accosted a man around 9 p.m. on Sunday, forcing him to scream for help.
According to a report released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), police officers on patrol along Kabitu road responded to the call and engaged the armed robbers.
“As the officers rushed to the aid of the victim, the thugs opened fire prompting them to dash down for their safety, as they took position to respond,” stated the DCI.
“What followed was a deafening hail of fire as the officers gave the thugs a taste of their own medicine, fatally wounding one of them as his accomplices scampered for dear life with gunshot injuries.”
The police officers also recovered a firearm with 3 rounds of ammunition from the incident.
Meanwhile, a manhunt for the two escapees has been launched as part of what detectives said is an ongoing crackdown on criminals and criminal gangs in the city.
