Robbery suspect charged with causing grievous harm in botched robbery against Four Points JKIA Hotel employee
A suspected robber who stabbed and seriously injured a woman on the hand during a botched violent robbery is facing charges of causing her grievous harm.
Brain Ngolya aged 25 years is accused of unlawfully causing grievous harm to Philgona Muganda contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code at Tassia Area within Embakasi East Sub County in Nairobi on July 9, 2025.
Ngolya had allegedly aimed a knife at the complainant’s neck but she shielded herself with the hand and sustained cut wounds on the fingers during a tussle with the assailant after she declined to surrender her mobile phone.
Muganda who works at Four Points by Sheraton – hotel near the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was returning home from duty, shortly past midnight when the incident happened.
The suspect allegedly told the police during the investigations into the matter that he was walking behind Muganda and had attempted to steal her phone unsuccessfully after she resisted.
Ngolya had a nail cutter that had a knife and used the same to injure the complainant during a tussle over the mobile phone he wanted to steal from her.
Muganda sustained deep cut wounds on several fingers. She was treated at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi where necessary documents needed for evidence were filled appropriately.
Medics indicated that the injuries on the survivor were extensive and grievous warranting the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to charge Ngolya with the serious offence.
Ngolya denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu of the Makadara law courts. He was released on a cash bail of Sh100, 000 pending a hearing of the case.
The matter will be mentioned on September 8, 2025 for a pretrial.
