Retired President Uhuru blocks anonymous youth group visit, calls for dialogue

Retired fourth President Uhuru Kenyatta has declined to host an anonymously organised youth group that had reportedly planned to visit his rural home in Ichaweri, Gatundu, Kiambu County, saying the visit was not formally communicated to his office.

In a statement issued today by Kanze Dena, the Communication Secretary in the Office of the fourth President, the former Head of State said he was not in a position to receive the group due to lack of prior notification and clear arrangements.

“We wish to clarify that President (Rtd) Kenyatta is currently not in a position to host the said group,” the statement read, noting that the planned visit had not been formally communicated to his office for approval and coordination.

The office urged the organisers to follow proper channels in future and communicate in advance to allow for seamless planning and appropriate engagement.

It emphasised the importance of structured arrangements, especially for visits involving groups, to ensure order and security.

Despite declining the uncoordinated visit, Kenyatta reiterated his openness to engaging with Kenyans, particularly young people, on issues affecting the country.

He underscored the need for dialogue conducted in a dignified and respectful manner.

“He firmly believes that dialogue between generations is essential for shaping the future of our nation, and he welcomes opportunities for constructive engagement,” the statement added.

The former president also used the opportunity to call for national unity and meaningful conversations among Kenyans, stressing that constructive dialogue remains key to fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the country’s democratic space.

Mr Kenyatta’s Ichaweri home in Gatundu has in the past hosted leaders and delegations for consultations on national matters.
