Raila, Uhuru’s dilemma in Azimio Mt Kenya region campaign

You will not see President Uhuru Kenyatta on the campaign trail soon following a divided opinion in Kenyatta’s advisers after a section of them raised concern about the President’s safety.

The advisors foresee a scenario where planted crowds might heckle the President in different parts of the country.

The Informer has learnt that the presidential advisors are hoping to avert a situation that might embarrass the President, especially in his backyard.

Over the recent months, Kenyatta has received some opposition from elected leaders from his backyard who have opted for the Deputy President led Kenya Kwanza.

“Chances are high you may not see the Head of State on a campaign trail for Raila as earlier anticipated.

We do not wish to see a scenario where crowds heckle the President. It is also possible his involvement in campaigns will attract all sorts of embarrassing mudslinging from our rivals,” said a highly placed State House official interviewed by the people daily.

However, the Azimio la Umoja camp members have retaliated that the President will ensure that he pulls his weight behind Raila Odinga. If he has to get to the campaign trail, so be it!

“Time is not yet ripe for the Head of State to come out strongly. He has already decided to support Raila, and there is nothing that will stop him from pushing his candidate to the end,” says Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi.

The anti-Uhuru’s involvement in the campaign trail group says it is acting on intelligent reports that have indicated that there might be a group of young Kenyans tasked to ensure that they heckle the Head of State.

Preceding this information, a group of youth during the Sagana III meeting forced their way into the meeting chaired by the President and a group of leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.

“This was a well-choreographed incident by some leaders from the region for the youth to heckle the President at the State lodge.

The same leaders have already hired youth, waiting to repeat the same thing at any rally held by the President in any part of Mt Kenya,” says the State House source.

But leaders allied with the jubilee function of the Azimio la Umoja, One Kenya coalition insist that the President must be involved in the politics for the country’s sake.

They insist that the President is yet to give direction to the people of the mountain.

It is not yet clear the impact of the action on the Raila Odinga’s candidacy.

However, pundits warn that such a move might weaken Raila’s strength in the Mountain.
