Rachel Ruto host pupils from Kilifi primary schools at Sugoi farm

Pupils from Kachororoni and Gandini Primary Schools in Kilifi County were today hosted at President William Ruto’s Sugoi farm in Eldoret for an educational tour.

The pupils were taken through a farm visit by First Lady Rachel Ruto to learn different farming techniques in horticulture, poultry and dairy farming.

The First Lady narrated the president’s journey from a humble background as a roadside chicken seller to a large-scale farming especially in poultry rearing.

“It doesn’t matter what people say about where you come from. I want to tell you great dreams and people are born anywhere,” she said

During the interaction Rachel encouraged the kids to put more efforts in school for a brighter future so that they can go back and transform their villages

“Respect your teachers because they bring up people who later become greater than them, work hard and get out of that village and into the world,” she added.

She further urged schools to embrace fact finding and exchange programs among themselves.

The two schools found in dry and remote areas of Kilifi County are encouraging students to embrace farming at a younger age through the 4K club membership.

She further called for a more united Kenya to achieve the much-needed development

“We want a Kenya full of peace and unity, this is what the president has been advocating,” she added

“A Kenya where all people love one another, where no individual will want to hurt the other,” she added.

The teachers and student expressed their gratitude saying they will share back the knowledge gained when they go back home.

“We are very much happy to visit your farm, we have gained lot of knowledge,” said Pauline Moses, the headteacher of Kachochoroni primary school.

During the visit in Kilifi, Rachel Ruto participated in several initiatives aimed at empowering local communities

Kitchen Garden Initiative: She toured a model kitchen garden and launched the Women Economic Empowerment Program to boost household food security through sustainable agriculture.

Through her Voice of Children initiative, she said, the government and partners are working to provide a supportive environment that recognises, protects, and fulfils the rights of every child.

“Through the Voice of Children initiative, we are championing child provision, child protection, and child participation, working to create a nurturing environment where children’s rights are recognised, protected and fulfilled. By amplifying their voices, we are contributing to Kenya’s socio-economic development and long-term resilience,” she added.
