The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) is opposed to the petition challenging the proposed Sh3.7billion perks for Members of Parliament and Senators whose formal terms will be shortened by the impending General Election.
The PSC has filed a preliminary objection to the petition filed last week by lawyer Dismas Wambola blocking the National Assembly from considering the fiscal proposal to be factored in supplementary budget estimates to include salaries and allowances for the legislators from August until the 12th Parliament is convened by March next year.
High Court Judge John Mativo directed that the objection will be heard on February 28 with the participation of representatives of both Houses, the Treasury Cabinet Secretary, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and the Attorney General. The sanctions blocking the National Assembly from discussing the controversial proposal will remain in force.
Wambola has cried foul that members of the bi-cameral Parliament have colluded to siphon public coffers by demanding undeserved payments beyond August when the General Election should be held and their terms will have expired.
