President Uhuru and Raila to unveil Azimio structure
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga will on Sunday hold a combined rally to announce the Azimio La Umoja structure.
According to a planned structure discovered, Kenyatta will become the chairperson of the coalition party which includes close to 15 political parties, in a move that will keep him politically engaged after he leaves office. The coalition’s presidential candidate will be Raila Odinga.
The handshake partners have chosen the historic Kamkunji Grounds as the site of the coalition’s official launch, which aims to elect Raila to power in the August 9 elections.
The coalition has created four deputy chairperson positions with candidates drawn from the Coast, Western, North Eastern, and Nairobi or Eastern areas.
According to a key member of Uhuru’s team, a technical team was entrusted with achieving regional balance in the selection of top officials.
The coalition has also formed the role of secretary, which will be filled by a Nyanza politician, while the position of organising secretary will be filled by a Rift Valley politician.
Uhuru’s decision to persuade some of his CSs to stay in Cabinet despite plans for elective seats was highlighted by the source as indication that they would have a say in the next government should Raila succeed him.
Agriculuture CS Peter Munya was intended to resign and run for governor of Meru, while Health CS Mutahi Kagwe was expected to run for governor of Nyeri and National Treasury Ukur Yatani was expected to run for governor of Marsabit.
Raila presided over ODM’s Central Management Committee meeting yesterday in preparation for the organization’s National Delegates Convention on Saturday.
The ODM’s National Governing Council (NGC) will meet on Friday in Bomas, Kenya, according to Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. “We have NEC on Thursday, NGC on Friday, and NDC on Friday,” says the narrator. On Sunday, we’ll hold a rally in Kamkunji,” Sifuna stated.
Over 3,000 ODM delegates are scheduled to attend the ceremony, which is anticipated to endorse Raila as president.
