President directs all teachers, support staff to be vaccinated
His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that all teachers and support staff in schools be allowed to take Covid-19 vaccinations irrespective of their age as part of the measures to ensure schools are safe.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, Chief Executive Officer of the Teacher Service Commission said that they have lost15 teachers (primary), 3 deputy head teachers and 8 head teachers to the pandemic.
“We have lost three deputy head teachers and eight head teachers to the pandemic,” she said.
Macharia said going forward, the commission has come up with measures to protect all teachers from the virus.
“First we instructed our medical health insurance provider to cover all teachers against Covid-19 related ailments which they have since complied with,” Macharia said.
Further, Macharia appealed to all examiners travelling to the city to mark KCSE next week to ensure they have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Speaking today at Kenya National Examination Council(KNEC) headquarters releasing Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha thanked the President for availing 1.1B for Covid recovery fund part of which enabled KNEC conduct entry assessment.
He also said that the Ministry will start preparations to mount KCPE 2021.
“…This means that as soon as we release this results we are going to direct KNEC to start preparing tests that shall be administered later this year flowing into early next year,” he said.
