Postmaster General seek police reinforcement as land grabbers invade Kiambu Post Office property
Postmaster General John Tunoi’s request to have police officers’ reinforcement during the erecting of a perimeter wall to evict land grabbers has not borne fruits.
This is despite the Postmaster General writing to the National Police Service and the Ministry of Interior over the same.
The authorities have raised concerns that political figures may be involved in the grabbing of the said piece of land hence hampering the efforts to secure the public facility.
In the first letter dated the 28th of last month, Tunoi wrote to the National Police Service and the Ministry seeking the reinforcement of Police while a perimeter wall is erected on property owned by the Postal Corporation of Kenya.
In letters addressed to the Kiambu Sub-County Police Commander SCPC), Kiambu Senior Deputy County Commissioner told the Kiambu SCPC to provide security support as requested by the Postmaster General.
“The Postmaster General /CEO has written to us on the above cited subject matter via letter Ref:DF:720/FM/28/02/2025 dated February 28th 2025. The purpose of this letter therefore is to ask that you provide the security support as requested.” Kiambu County Senior Deputy County Commissioner told the SCPC vide a letter dated February 28, 2025 Ref. C/SEC/GN/VOL.1/31.
In a separate remedial letter dated March 3, 2025, the Postmaster General through Manager In charge of Facilities Management Rose Musyimi, the same support was sort from the Kiambu SCPC.
“As indicated in the referenced letter (Ref. C/SEC/GN/VOL.1/31), the PCK intends to commence the fencing exercise of the aforementioned property, which has been subject to persistent interference and encroachment by unauthorised traders. In order to ensure the smooth, orderly and uninterrupted execution of this exercise, the presence of police officers is requested. The number of officers and duration of their deployment may be determined based on the security assessment conducted by your team.” Musyimi said.
Political figures are said to be behind the land grab attempt of a public facility hampering fencing efforts.
Cases of land grabbing by unscrupulous private developers have been on the rise in the recent past.
