Police launch manhunt for driver after recovering 13 bales of marijuana

Langata based detectives attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigation have launched a manhunt for a runaway suspect, who was driving vehicle loaded with a consignment of cannabis sativa.
The vehicle, that had 13 bales of marijuana and four occupants, was impounded by detectives, as it made its way into the city.
According to police, three of the passengers were catholic nuns from the Benedictine Sisters, who had boarded the vehicle at Malaba along the Kenya-Uganda border, and asked to be dropped in Nairobi’s Karen estate.
“The visibly shaken nuns were however not connected to the consignment since they had boarded the vehicle as passengers, headed to a convent in Karen,” stated DCI.
Detectives had earlier flagged down the vehicle along the southern bypass, but the driver failed to stop prompting a high-speed chase.
“The vehicle failed to match the speed of the Subaru hatchback used by the detectives, forcing the driver to jump from the vehicle as they approached Kabage area and disappeared into darkness,” stated detectives.
The detectives also recovered three jerrycans containing 35 litres of locally distilled Chang’aa brew were recovered.
