Police in Kitui county have smashed a diesel cartel operating along Kibwezi- Kitui road who have been stealing diesel and other petroleum products from Sinohydro Corporation contracted to tarmac the road.
In an operation led by Mutomo deputy county commissioner Jeremiah Tumo and Mutomo OCPD Kingsford Nyaga, 3,335 litres of stolen diesel were seized and one person arrested.
”A sting operation by detectives and security operatives in Mutomo yesterday led to recovery of 3,335 litres of diesel said to have been stolen from the road construction company,” County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich told the press in his office.
He said the fuel, valued at Sh266,000, was stolen from the firm’s site at Ikutha, 30 kilometres from Mutomo Town where 20 drums of diesel were found hidden in a warehouse.
He said the police officers in the company of senior officials from the firm acted on a tip off from members of the public .
