Owalo named as new Gor Mahia deputy patron
He replaces former Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti who relinquished the seat on health grounds
Ardent Gor Mahia FC fan Eliud Owallo has been confirmed as the new deputy patron of the club.
The current Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Performance & Delivery Management at the Office of the President was introduced to players and officials on the sidelines of a lunch meeting held at Karen’s Hermosa Garden Hotel today. The former ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary will nw be working closely with ODM Party leader Raila Odinga who is presently the K’Ogalo Patron. Owalo replaces Cyprian Awiti (former Homabay Governor) who relinquished the seat on health grounds.
During the event presided over by the new Executive office led by Chairman Ambrose Rachier and his Executive committee, the new Deputy patron promised to take the club to new heights. His agenda would include; building a stadium, prioritising on player welfare through securing medical cover for players and institutionalizing a Human Resource Policy.
Owalo also promised to address issues of housing for players and also mobilize adequate resources for the club through his networks. At the same time, the Strategic Management expert has vowed to help work on a player transfer policy so that the right signees come on board. Additionally, part of his plans would entail creating fully functional secretariat thereby lifting Gor Mahia FC to world class standards.
“My primary goal a Deputy Patron is to ensure that within the shortest time possible, we facilitate the construction of a Stadium for Gor Mahia FC, club house and will we go as far as doing houses for the players,” he stated during the meet. “My wish is to see quality players at Gor Mahia. We will have quality local players. Foreign players must be of quality as well.”
In his personal capacity, Owalo, through his foundation, has heavily supported the Gor Mahia cause. As an astute supporter of the club, his face is not a rarity during K’Ogalo matches.
Earlier in a meeting with the new office, Owalo thanked them and urged them to work for the wellbeing of the club. “Gor Mahia is more than a football team – it is a national institution with a proud legacy. I trust this new leadership will safeguard that legacy while pushing for continued excellence,” he stated.
The new office that will manage the club for the next four years include Chairman Ambrose Rachier, Vice Chairperson Sally Bolo, Secretary General Nick Arum and Treasurer Gerphas Okuku.
