Nairobi County Government has halted the execution of contracts, leases, assignments and processing of payments until Governor-elect Mike Sonko is sworn in on Monday.
County Secretary Robert Ayisi directed all county chief officers and directors to put on hold all functions that require the approval of county executive committee until the new governor takes oath of office.
In a memo to county Chief Officers and directors dated August 15 ,Public Service chief office Leboo Morintat acting for Dr. Ayisi also warned them against entering into any contract with any third party committing the county resources in any manner.
At this moment the county is expecting a new executive owing to the election of Mike Mbuvi Sonko as the new Nairobi governor, and until this new group has been sworn in, all the their functions have been suspended.
“The county is in a transition period and it would be prudent that activities that require consent and authorization of the executive as outline should be suspended or processed after approval by the county secretary until the conclusion of the change over for accountability,”
This, they say, will be able to curb any fraudulent deals that officers of the previous regime may want to execute illegally to loot county funds and to further ease the accountability of bank accounts when the new team assumes office.
