Openly joyous President Kenyatta excites Mombasa residents on street walk
President Uhuru Kenyatta today joyously engaged Mombasa residents while walking alongside Mombasa governor-elect Abudulswamad Nassir.
A video obtained by The Informer also shows Kenyatta in the company of Sabina Chege, Ali Hassan Joho, Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, and Nairobi Woman Representative-elect Esther Passaris at Barka Restaurant in Mombasa’s Old Town.
“You want a message, do not worry, we will look for you,” Kenyatta told a cameraman.
This comes after Mombasa carried out gubernatorial elections early this week.
Nassir was declared the Mombasa governor-elect after garnering 119,083 votes, against United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Hassan Omar who came in second with 98,105 votes.
He won the election alongside Francis Thoya, his running mate, and will take over from outgoing Governor Hassan Ali Joho, who served two terms starting in 2013.
Seven people entered the contest for governor; the front-runners in the contest Omar and Nassir, Hezron Awiti Bollo of Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP), William Kingi of Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) Party, Said Omar of Usawa Kwa Wote Party, Daniel Kitsao (Independent) and Shafi Makazi (Independent).
Due to errors on the ballots, the electoral body, postponed the Mombasa and Kakamega gubernatorial elections.
IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati rescheduled the election for August 23,but later pushed the date to the 29 August citing intimidation and harassment of his staff.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s official statistics show that the election had a low voter turnout in a county with 641,913 registered voters.
