Musalia roots for youth inclusion while hosting world Muslim League Secretary General and Oslo Foundation leadership
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has said that the government will give more attention to the young people in its day-to-day operations given that they constituted the majority population in the country.
Mudavadi said in the last few weeks, the youths during their resurgence had said they want to be able to be participants in governance of the country.
“Given that they are the majority in the country and are seeking to participate in the decisions that affect them, as a government we are going to put them at the centre of operations.” Mudavadi said.
He spoke at his office today while hosting a delegation from the Oslo Center led by its founder member, and former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik, the organisations executive director Finn Jarle Rode, and Dr. Mohamed Al-lssam Secretary General Muslim World League, Mudavadi said the youth needed to know that they also operate guided by the Kenyan constitution and its confines.
Mudavadi said the government was keen on creating jobs for the young men and women internally, and at the same time was busy securing for them jobs out of the country to ensure that their energies are channeled.
“We are keen to harness the active energy of the young people through job creation. This is a continuous engagement that the government is keen to pursue. Sometime because of their inexperience. They think that you can change anything at a go, they do not know that there is a constitution, so being available to speak with the youth is very important for them to learn.” Mudavadi added.
The Prime Cabinet secretary said that The Oslo center had been a strong partner in its roles in Kenya through channeling of skills and thanked them for running programmes that were capacity building political parties in Kenya.
Bondevik, Rode and Dr. Mohamed Al-lssam also the President of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, had attended the Africa Youth forum, themed breaking barriers through inter-generational dialogue and organised by The Oslo center in partnership with the young members of Parliament from Kenya.
Dr. Al-lssam Secretary General Muslim World League, and President of the Organization of Muslim Scholars said that there was a need to train the youths on gaining knowledge and teaching them values at the same time.
“Giving the young people knowledge and without teaching them values can be dangerous given that you have young men and women who are learned but do not have good attributes that would help the society grow in the right direction.” Al-lssam noted.
Dr. Al-lssam was eager to attend the summit when he knew that the event would take place in Nairobi.
Bondevik said the youths were eager and ready to give their country the best solution and called on the government to listen and give them attention.
