Mukhisa Kituyi launches new coalition
The former Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Mukhisa Kituyi announced a coalition yesterday in the aim of propelling him to the presidency.
During the founding of the Sawa Coalition, Kituyi claimed the group would bring together more than ten parties.
“We have on board like-minded individuals who are focused on transforming this country. Some of the core issues that are uniting us are our stand against corruption and commitment to address the agenda of vulnerable members of our society, particularly economic revival post Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Benefiting from the situation “We are afraid that the major presidential candidates are exploiting Kenyans by offering an agenda that would not work,” he continued. He stated, “We are the solution that this country requires.”
According to the former Cabinet minister, his alliance is working on a document that would let them field candidates for various elected seats.
The Alternative Leadership Party of Kenya, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Party of Growth and Prosperity, and the Republic Liberty Party are among the coalition’s members.
This however contrary to an earlier plan last year where National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Kituyi are in talks of building a coalition ahead of the 2022 General Election.
The four leaders had said they believe they will receive overwhelming support from Kenyans and that there is no reason for retreat
So far Karua has joined One Kenya alliance (OKA) while Kibwana joined Azimio la Umoja, there has been speculation that Muturi will join OKA.
