Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) the late Charles Ong’ondo Were died from excessive bleeding occasioned by injuries to his vital organs after he was shot five times at close range rapturing internal organs, an autopsy examination has revealed.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Odour who led the autopsy of the late legislator at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi confirmed the findings.
While addressing the media outside the mortuary, Odour stated that the bullets tore through Were’s vital organs, including the liver, heart, lungs and aorta.
Oduor noted that the 51-year-old MP had five gunshot wounds, including two entry wounds on the left forearm, two on the left side of the chest, and one that lodged in the spine.
The autopsy process was also attended by the family lawyers led by Apollo Mboya and Peter Kopere.
The late Kasipul lawmaker died last week at the Kenyatta Hospital roundabout near the Nairobi Funeral Home along Ngong Road shortly after leaving the National Assembly.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nairobi Hospital, where he was rushed after the attack.
The autopsy results come after President William Ruto, who yesterday began a three-day tour in Migori County, vowed to bring those responsible for the assassination to justice.
“We will get them, they will not succeed, they will have nowhere to hide,” Ruto said, condemning the act as an attack on the nation’s stability.
Over the weekend, four suspects were arrested in connection with the killing. Juma Ali Haikal, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, David Mihigo Kagame, and William Moli Shighali have since appeared before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) law courts.
The court granted a 30-day detention order to allow for further investigations, with each suspect held at a separate police station in Nairobi.
The late MP will be buried on Friday, with a mass expected to be held on Wednesday at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi.
