Moses Kuria calls off Ichung’wah for proposing Kiambu’s split from Mt Kenya region

Former Cabinet Minister Moses Kuria has blasted National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah for pushing to have Kiambu isolated from the larger Mount Kenya region.
In a statement on his social media, Kuria has stated that Kiambu will remain a part of the Mount Kenya region.
“Let me state categorically that Kiambu will always be part of Mt Kenya. And not an isolated Mt Kenya, but one that will be a proud part and parcel of our wonderful nation, Kenya,” Kuria, a former Gatundu South MP stated.
The former Public Service CS noted that during first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s tenure, Kiambu County suffered the ignominy of a cabal infamously referred to as the Kiambu Mafia.
According to Kuria, also a Senior Economic Advisor to the President, the claims by the Kikuyu legislator may take Kiambu back to that era.
“During Jomo Kenyatta’s rule, Kiambu suffered the ignominy of a cabal infamously referred to as the Kiambu Mafia. Now, there is a new Kiambu Mafia in diapers laced with poopooh, which is claiming that Kiambu will not be in Mt Kenya region,” Kuria said.
He has added that in the 2027 General Election, the Mt Kenya region will cast its vote in one basket without any conditions, adding that previous conditions have been used against them.
“For avoidance of doubt, that Mt Kenya will pit all their 6 million votes in one basket in 2027. They will do so unconditionally without demanding to be given the Presidency, the running mate, or Prime Cabinet Secretary- it is now clear some of these positions have the same value as recycled toilet paper,” he has stated.
The remarks by Kuria came after Ichung’wah on Wednesday proposed the removal of the county from the Mountain region.
Speaking at the State House, where President Ruto was meeting a delegation from the Kimani Wamatangi-led County, Ichung’wah argued that Kiambu has long been placed under Mt Kenya for political and cultural convenience, despite having a distinct identity of its own.
“We have been referred to as the people of Mt Kenya, but the only mountains the people of Kiambu see are Ngong Hills and Kilimambogo. They have said they are a region by themselves; Kiambu is a region on its own,” Ichung’wah stated.
Early this month, a section of UDA MPs from Kiambu claimed during a press conference that the high number of voters in the county makes them eligible to be recognised as a standalone region.
