Matiang’i declares Monday a public holiday to commemorate Labour Day

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has declared Monday a public holiday to mark Labour Day.

Through a statement, Matiang’i noted that since May 1 falls on a Sunday, the entire observance of the day marked by workers across the country will be honoured on that day.

“In line with the provisions of section 2 and 4 of the Public holiday Acts (CAP 110), its hereby confirmed that 2nd May 2022 will be a public holiday, by dint of Labour Day falling on Sunday 1st May 2022,” Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’i also declared Friday April 29 a national holiday following the death of President Mwai Kibaki, presenting an opportunity for another long weekend.

The Interior CS yesterday declared Tuesday May 3 a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.

Idd-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadhan, which is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of the holy month.

This potentially means that if a federal servant who works Monday through Friday leaves on Thursday, April 28, the next day of work will be Wednesday, May 4.
