Mount Kenya Matatu Owners Association will give free transport to eligible voters to participate in the ongoing mass voter registration exercise.
Association chairman Michael Kariuki said the move is intended to boost the numbers as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) February 14 fast deadline approaches.
He appealed on Kenyans to take advantage of the national exercise to get the vital documents which will enable them to vote for leaders of their choice.
“Eligible voters should take advantage of this opportunity and make a difference on the August 8 General Election,” he said in a Nairobi hotel yesterday.
Kariuki said they will concentrate their effort in Nyeri County which was listed by the election body as one of the counties that registered low turnout in voter registration.
IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati in the second week of update listed Nyeri, Vihiga, Kisii, Kericho, Kakamega, Bungoma, Siaya, and Kitui as having recorded below 20 percent of their total targets.
“We have directed our staff and crew to assist members of the public to give directions and other assistance in whichever way they can,” he said.
He also called on IEBC to consider moving the Biometric Voter Registration kits at main stages to allow their crew to be registered.
Meanwhile, the association has also vowed to back President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the August polls.
