Maseno, Maranda, Orero lead schools in Nyanza in 2024

Celebrations greeted most parts of Nyanza region after some of the traditional academic giants that had been missing in the past examinations resurfaced.
The reemergence of Maseno School with a mean grade of 9.72, Maranda High 9.6, Orero 9.2, and Kanga Boys 9.4, on the list of top performance in the 2024 KCSE exams brought relief and joy to many parents and students alike.
Other schools in the regions, which also got an impressive results include Agoro Sare, Mbita High, Asumbi Girls, Ugenya High, Moi Girls (Sindo), and Saye Mixed were some of the schools which attained a mean grade of 9.7 from top to
Maseno School confirmed its standing as a leading academic giant in Nyanza after it emerged on top in the region. The school will take 669 out of 678 students to university. In 2023, about 97.1 per cent of students who did exams joined university.
In Homa Bay County, Orero Boys produced 614 students eligible for direct university entry. The school has achieved a 100 per cent transition to the university. Out of the 614 students who sat their exams in the school, the student who performed badly got grade C.
Other schools that appear on top of the list in the region include Mbita High with 9.16, Asumbi Girls, 9.13, Moi Girls Sindo, 8.69, Saye Mixed 8.60, St Joseph’s Rapogi 8.59.
Asumbi Girls High School is expected to take 734 students directly to university having attained C+ and above. St Joseph’s Rapogi improved slightly from a mean score of 8.2804 in KCSE examination results in 2023 to a mean score of 8.59 in 2024.
Other schools which also did well are Kisumu Girls which got a mean grade of 8.33, Ulanda Girls with 8.32, Rang’ala Girls 8.31, Ogande Girls 8.18, Ng’iya Girls 8.10, Gendia Boys 8.10, Nyabondo Boys 8.1, Homa Bay High 8.01, St Marys School Yala 8.00, Oriwo Boys 7.97, Kakimba Mixed (Mfangano) 7.7, Sawagongo High 7.65, Ringa Boys 7.6, Bishop Odera Agongo (Migori) 7.66, Kanyawanga High 7.59 and Kadika Girls 7.5.
Koru Girls High School got a mean grade of 6.939 compared to 8.8 attained in 2023. Kisumu Boys was also conspicuosly missing from the list. Incidentally, missing from the list of the top schools in the region is an extra county school Kokuro High School, which in 2023 toped in Nyanza region with a mean grade of 10.68.
The rest of the schools in the region got a mean grade below 7.5.
