Maraga officially declares 2027 presidential bid
His declaration comes after he got an endorsement from various people, including the young people in the country
Emeritus Chief Justice David Maraga has officially declared his bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Maraga confirmed his decision during an evening interview with a local TV station yesterday, saying that it is time for Kenya to think about its leadership.
“After discussion with friends and after serious reflection, I thought it was time we thought about the leadership of this country. We cannot let some people take our country to doomsday literally. I have made up my mind that I will run for the presidency of this country in 2027,” Maraga announced.
He declared that he is the Gen Z candidate.
“I am the Gen Z presidential candidate. I have children, and many people have children,” he said.
His declaration comes after he got an endorsement from various people, including the young people in the country who have been calling for a revolution in leadership.
Among other notable figures who have declared their support for Maraga is former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi.
Havi, who endorsed the former CJ, said his political allegiance to President William Ruto ends after five years.
“I have said we need to have David Maraga as the next President of the Republic of Kenya, and I say this forthrightly, and nobody will fault me, nobody has insurance on me, they know it. I speak the truth and for the good of the people of Kenya. Let us do the right thing,” Havi previously stated.
While speaking at the People’s Dialogue Festival this year, Maraga expressed that he would ensure that everyone obeys the rule of law if he were allowed to be President.
He stressed that the biggest problem facing Kenya was people, especially leaders, who disregard the law.
Maraga added that the selfish ambitions of leaders had created avenues for corruption, citing instances where money for projects was being diverted for other things.
“The truth of the matter is, what is ailing this country and very many African countries is corruption; the moment you deal with corruption, we will have no problem. If I were given the privilege to govern this country, I would get everybody to obey the law. The moment you get everybody to obey the law, things will fall into place,” he said.
