Man in court for allegedly seriously injuring senior NTSA official in city bar
Kemboi is said to have grabbed a stone and assaulted Kibongong, grabbed and floored him and continued with the assault using the stone.
A man who injured National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director of Road Safety Duncan Kibongong after a disagreement in a bar is facing charges of causing him serious injuries.
Nick Kemboi is accused of allegedly causing grievous harm to Kibongong contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code on May 3 at a club in Embakasi Sub County, Nairobi.
“On May 3rd 2025, at Hyde Park Pub, intentionally and unlawfully did grievous harm to Duncan Kibongong,” the charge sheet reads in part.
Kemboi is also charged with stealing US$600 from Kibongong on the same night at the same pub.
The two had left a pub together and proceeded to a different one in Kibongong’s car.
However, along the way, Kemboi became too noisy and troublesome, prompting the complainant to order him out of his vehicle.
Kemboi proceeded to Hyde Park where Kibongong was headed in the company of a friend.
He found them at the pub and started taking their drinks and became unruly, allegedly insulting Kibongong and demanding that he should leave.
The suspect allegedly grabbed a stone and assaulted the NTSA director, grabbed and floored him and continued with the assault using the stone.
He sustained injuries on the mouth, and upper lip before he was rescued from the assailant.
Kibongong the sought medication and later returned to the pub where he found the cash missing from his car.
The matter was reported to police and the suspect was later arrested after investigations were concluded. Kemboi denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja.
He was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 and a cash bail of Sh100, 000 pending trial.
