Madaraka Day preps in high gear as Homabay County await goodies

Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, which will be held at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay County, are in top gear.

Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo is coordinating logistics with hundreds of Kenyans expected to throng the lakeshore facility as Kenya celebrates its 62nd Independence Day. Local leaders have also been having meetings to plan for the big day on June 1.

President William Ruto yesterday at State House in Nairobi f met up with leaders from the region led by Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga, Senator Moses Kajwang and Women MP Joyce Atieno Osogo, among others.

The Head of State, who was flanked by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, promised that his government would ensure the planning of the event was seamless.

In a post in his official X account, President Ruto said; “Inclusive national development facilitates the pooling of skills, talents, knowledge and energy of all Kenyans in steering the transformation of our country in all spheres of the economy. Met leaders from Homa Bay County led by Governor Gladys Wanga, at State House, Nairobi. We discussed the transformative government programmes being undertaken in the county and the preparations for Madaraka Day celebrations later in the year.”

Governor Wanga, on her part, posted on her X account; “Leaders from Homa Bay County held a productive meeting at State House in Nairobi with H.E. President William Ruto. The discussions centered on expediting government programs currently being implemented in the county, as well as preparations for the upcoming Madaraka Day celebrations.”

Omollo was categorical that government was keen on driving forth its transformative agenda through working with counties in the devolution plan.

“Joined President William Ruto for a consultative meeting with leaders from Homa Bay County focusing on the transformative development agenda in the region. The discussions centered on the progress of government policies, flagship programs and ongoing projects, assessing their impact on economic growth, infrastructure and service delivery. The sitting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking development in Homa Bay, ensuring that every initiative aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to uplift livelihoods and unlock new opportunities for the people.”

The PS noted that the remaining three months will see several improvements in Homa Bay and its environs in the sectors of roads, water, and electricity, among others, to ensure the event is a success. He said there are ongoing improvements to certain roads within Homa Bay town ahead of the celebrations.

Omollo said there are plans to expand access to electricity in estates and neighboring villages.

He also added that President Ruto, who will lead the celebrations, will have an opportunity to commission a number of projects in the region.
