The Law Society of Kenya has called for a speedy probe into the murder of a Nairobi-based lawyer in Ongata Rongai area.
Boaz Nyakeri was stabbed on the neck by unknown assailants on his way home near Masaai Lodge in Rongai.
LSK Chief Executive Officer Mercy Wambua condemned the attack saying the assailants who seemed to have been trailing him stabbed him in the neck but did not steal anything from him, leaving a lot of questions as to the motive behind the attack.
“It is in this regard that we call on the Government to put in place strategies to ensure that advocates, magistrates, judges as well as all court officials are provided with adequate security and protection from any form of harm, threats, intimidation and attacks that may arise as a result of the nature of their work,” she said.
She asked authorities to heighten the security apparatus within the country, especially during the festive season.
At the time of the incident, the lawyer was in the company of his cousin. He was also stabbed in the arm and sustained some injuries.
Police say the motive of the attack is yet to be established although the cousin recounted that a man had trailed them for quite a distance before he landed on them.
They had been out partying at night near Osita Lodge before the incident.
A good Samaritan then came to their aid and rushed him to Sinai hospital before the lawyer was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.
He passed on while waiting at the casualty section.
