Koome appoint 127 magistrates to preside over graft cases

Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed 127 magistrates who will hear and determine corruption and economic crime cases across various law courts in the country.

Through a gazette notice yesterday, Koome stated that the appointment will hasten the hearing and resolution of corruption cases that have gone on in court for a very long time.

“The appointed magistrates will preside over cases relating to corruption and economic crimes in the areas of jurisdiction of their current court stations and future stations deployed to from time to time,” she said.

Koome previously said that the backlog of such cases was due to lack of enough judges and magistrates in the country.

Koome said that the appointments became effective on October 3,2022.
