KNH to dispose unclaimed bodies of 146 babies, 57 adults

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) plans to dispose of 203 unclaimed bodies if their relatives fail to identify them in the next seven days.

Through a gazette notice, KNH stated that it intends to seek court permission to dispose of them within seven days.

Last year in November, KNH disposed of a total of 233 unclaimed bodies as the referral hospital sought to create more space at its morgue.

According to the Public Health Act, bodies should only stay in the hospital fort two weeks and if unclaimed, it should be removed from the mortuary.

Contrary to that, it should be buried in a mass grave after public officers obtain permission from a court.
