Kenya Railways warns against vandalism of its assets

Kenya Railways police arrested four persons caught vandalizing sections of the Standard Gauge Railway line in Ngong area of Kajiado County on the night of April 19, 2020.
In his communiqué to media houses on the exercise, Kenya Railways Managing Director Mr. Philip Mainga said that the persons will be arraigned in court and full measures of the law will be followed in handling the matter.
The accused persons were caught vandalizing the SGR Bridge on Magadi Road on the way to Kiserian sub-county just past Maxwell University.
The vandals were loosening the guardrails on the bridge and carting away the metal pipes. Mr. Mainga said that vandalizing the railway line compromises the safety of the operations and puts the life of the passengers and the Corporation’s staff at risk.
He reiterated the Corporation’s commitment in ensuring the safety of the Standard Gauge Railway and all its assets. He further said that any person found vandalizing railway property is guilty of a felony and liable to prosecution.
The suspects are currently being held at the Railways Police station in Nairobi CBD awaiting arraignment in court.
