The Kenya Defence Forces have recovered guns and explosives after destroyed six Al Shabaab makeshift camps inside Boni Forest in Lamu County.
Boni Enclave Campaign director Joseph Kanyiri said food and medicine were also recovered in the camps during the operation to flush out the militants who have been using the forest as hideout to launch attacks on security forces and civilians.
Kanyiri said a number of Shabaab militants were killed while others are believed to have escaped with bullet wounds during the raid on the their hideouts.
“These camps are normally used by the terrorists as bases as they plan to carry out attacks in various parts of Lamu,” said.
Kanyiri asked hospitals in Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Kilifi and Mombasa counties to be on the look out for anyone seeking treatment from bullet wounds and report to the police.
“We are urging hospitals to report anyone who come seeking treatment for bullet wounds,” he said.
