KCB FC has unveiled veteran tactician Robert Matano as its new head coach in readiness to the 2025/26 Kenya Premier League (KPL) campaign.
Matano, who was unveiled on Friday at Kencom House, is widely recognised for instilling professionalism, mental toughness, nurtuting young talent and a winning culture within his teams, saying his mission is to win trophies for the bankers.
“I’m honoured to be joining KCB FC. This is a club with immense potential, a strong backing, and a clear vision for the future. I am here to win, to compete, and to build a team that reflects the strength and ambition of the KCB brand,” Matano said.

His wealth of experience and championship pedigree make him the ideal candidate to guide the team into a new era of success,” Ogolla said.
KCB FC wrapped up the 2024/25 season in ninth place with 42 points.
The team went through a rough patch in the closing stages when it went through a six-match winless streak, drawing against Kakamega Homeboyz and Mara Sugar, and losing to Gor Mahia, Kenya Police, Talanta FC and Shabana.
“It has been a rough run for the team. We have fallen short in the last five league matches and also exited the Mozzart Bet Cup in the Round of 16. This is not the form we want, but our focus now is on Shabana. We must push for a win to lift the team’s morale,” then Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo ahead of the final match of the season with Tore Bobe, which they lost 1-0.
Ahead of the new season, the club’s priority has been to rebuild, strength the technical bench, restructure the playing unit, and ramping up preparations in readiness for the new season.
Matano nicknamed ‘The Lion’, is widely regarded as one of East Africa’s most accomplished football managers, and returns to the country after a short spell in Tanzania, bringing with him a remarkable legacy of success.
