KBF hold county and commission elections next month
The move puts to bed the friction that has been witnessed in certain regions about leadership
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has announced dates for the forthcoming County Basketball Association (CBA) and Affiliate Commission elections in May with venues yet to be identified.
Positions to be contested in the CBA will be chairperson, 1st deputy chairperson, 2nd deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, Competitions Secretary, Deputy Competitions Secretary, Women Representative and three committee members.
A letter from KBF Secretary-General Angela Luchivya, which is copied to the seven commissions plus the County Associations says the elections will be conducted on May 10-11, 2025, May 17-18, 2025 & May 24-25 between 8am-6pm across the country.
She added: “As per our official communication to the Office of the Sports Registrar dated April 9, 2025, and in line with the Kenya Basketball Federation Constitution (Article 10) and the Sports Registrar Regulations (Legal Notice No. 158 of 2016), we write to formally notify you of the upcoming County Basketball Association and Affiliate Commission elections.”
“Eligibility to vote in these elections shall be limited to registered county basketball teams and members as recognised under the Sports Act and in accordance with the respective County Association and Commission Constitutions. Eligibility to vie for any position shall be in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Sports Act, the KBF Constitution, and any applicable County or Commission-specific constitutional provisions.”
“We urge each County Association and Affiliate Commission to take the necessary steps to prepare for and facilitate these elections in a timely, transparent, and inclusive manner. Kindly ensure venue confirmation is done by May 1, 2025 to allow for internal mobilization and logistical planning with relevant authorities,” Luchivya added.
“Please note that oversight from the Sports Registrar will be coordinated at national level. Should you require any clarification or support, do not hesitate to contact this office,” reads the letter, which was also copied to the Sports Registrar and State Department of Sports.
