Karua says Azimio will respect Supreme Court ruling
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition running mate Martha Karua has said the Raila Odinga led faction will respect the Supreme court ruling on Monday.
Karua and her Azimio presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, moved to court to challenge the results announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati on August 15, 2022 that declared William Ruto as the winner of the said contest.
Speaking in Tigania East, Meru County on Friday when she attended the funeral service of Prof. Gitile Naituli’s mother, Florah Kabeti, Karua stated that Azimio would observe the apex court’s ruling regardless of whether the judgement will go in their favour or not.
“You are all aware that there is a case going on at the Supreme Court where we are seeking the truth about what happened. Our Constitution stipulates that if one is dissatisfied with the results, they have to seek legal redress and that is what we did,” Karua said during the burial.
The party and seven other petitioners challenged the declaration of William Ruto as president-elect, arguing the elections were marred with irregularities and illegalities.
Supreme court president lady justice Martha Koome confirmed to Kenyans that the verdict of the presidential election results petition will be delivered on Monday, September 5, as required by law.
“Judgement will be delivered on Monday, September 5, but we will give you a time indication in the notice. It will definitely be on Monday, but I am reminded that Monday runs up to midnight,” CJ Koome said.
