Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accepted the Chief minister position offered by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
During a press conference today, Musyoka stated that he decided after extensive consultations with party officials.
“We have an opportunity to choose a united and prosperous Kenya. The alternative is unthinkable,” Musyoka said.
This is after a month of back and forth, where the Wiper leader had announced he will run for the top seat by being on the ballot in the August polls, said that he had considered all factors at hand, and had decided to shelve his ambition and put the people’s interest first.
The Wiper leader also commended Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on being chosen as a running mate for the Azimio alliance, pledging his complete support to both their candidacy and the coalition.
“With humility, I hereby accept the nomination for the position of the chief minister when Azimio forms government. I would wish to congratulate Karua on her nomination as Azimio DP nominee,” he said.
He also stated that he would be traveling to Mukuru Kwa Njenga to address a joint rally alongside Raila, Karua, and other key coalition leaders and members. Kalonzo was surrounded by various wiper leaders, including Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, who is claimed to have spearheaded the arduous discussions that resulted in Kalonzo’s return to Azimio.
“I commit myself to the Azimio One Kenya campaign because our objective is winning,” he stated. His statement was made during a burial in Mwala, Machakos county.
“The decision I take is in your best interest. I will give a political statement within two days, that is why I am requesting the Kamba community to support my political move,” Musyoka said.
Musyoka has so far received intense pressure from the key stakeholders of the Azimio coalition, his party, and key pillars of the Kamba section of leaders to join the coalition.
