In a notice dated today, JSC Secretary Winfred Mokaya stated that the Judiciary lacks the financial capacity to give the internship opportunities, hence the decision to withdraw.
“This is to notify the general public and the applicants that, owing to the fiscal constraints affecting the country, the JSC has cancelled the advertisement for the following positions…The commission regrets any inconvenience caused,” the JSC Secretary said in her statement.
JSC had planned to recruit 60 legal researchers, in addition to offering 111 internship opportunities in different fields.
Among the internship opportunities were 45 undergraduate and diploma internships in the Office of Administration (Secretarial Services), 24 positions in the graduate internship for Information, Communications and Technology, and 10 positions for graduate interns in Supply Chain Management, among others.
Mokaya advised Kenyans and applicants who have questions about the cancellation to contact JSC via email or call them via their official number.
She also advised them to visit their offices at the CBK Pension Towers along Harambee Avenue.
The announcement by JSC comes months after the Chief Justice Martha Koome decried of a fifty per cent budget cut over the last three years.
The CJ revealed that the Commission’s services are impaired by the consistent under funding, adding that they are doing their best to cope with the limited resources.
“The Judiciary continues to face funding challenges owing to historic underfunding in the justice sector,” Koome stated last year.
This funding gap has restricted the Judiciary’s ability to expand infrastructure, enhance security, and support the well-being of judicial personnel.
In the last financial year, the Judiciary received Sh22.42 billion, significantly below the required budget of Ksh 43.17 billion.
