Interviews for IEBC chair, commissioners to commence today

The interviews for the chairperson and commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) kicks off today with former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Atieno Amadi, former East African Court of Justice judge Charles Ayako Nyachae and Edward Katama Ngeywa being the first candidates to face the Nelson Makanda-led selection panel.

Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan will also face the panel today.

The Makanda team had shortlisted 11 individuals—eight males and three females—for the position of chairperson to replace the late Wafula Chebukati.

The interviews are being conducted at the College of Insurance in Nairobi’s South C estate and will be open to the public.

The process seeks to get new leadership after the seat remained vacant for over two years following the exit of the late Wafula Chebukati.

Similarly, Erastus Edung Ethekon, Francis Kakai Kissinger, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo will be interviewed on Tuesday.

The final group which includes Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Robert Akumu Asembo and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa will face the Makanda led panel on Wednesday.

A total of 37 candidates had expressed interest in the IEBC Chairperson position before the list was narrowed down to 11.

Once this phase concludes interviews for the six vacant IEBC commissioners’ positions will commence on Thursday, March 28,2025 and run until April 24, 2025.

A total of 105 candidates, including 32 women, have been shortlisted in this category.
