Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has dismissed claims that he is out to scuttle Kalenjin unity as his rivalry with Deputy President William Ruto intensified over the weekend.
While drumming up support for Nakuru County Chama Cha Mashinani gubernatorial candidate Dr Peter Koros, Governor Ruto defended himself saying that the Kalenjin community was slowly warming up to opposition outfit National Super Alliance (NASA).
Speaking on Friday when President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto toured his county on a vote hunting spree, Governor Ruto said he skipped the event because “I don’t have time for them” adding they were taking Kenyans for a ride.
“They are in my home now addressing a small crowd and lying to Kenyans but what they don’t know is that our people are enlightened,” he said in a rally at Kongasis in Gilgil Sub-County.
He said all communities were going through similar challenges such as hunger, poverty and disease. “Everyone is suffering under the Jubilee administration…Kenyans are not fools” he said.
Governor Ruto further accused DP Ruto of politically auctioning members of the Kalenjin community instead of uniting them and pitching for equitable distribution of resources.
He asked the residents of Nakuru to elect Dr Koros and his deputy James Muchoma describing them as the right combination for Nakuru County. “Nakuru is cosmopolitan and home to all ethnic communities and this is the right team that will all people together,” he said.
For his part, Dr Koros said that he will ensure resources are shared equitably adding that he is going to prioritize water and health issues.
