Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Marjan Hussein has called for speedy investigations, arrest, and prosecution of those behind the murder of Kilifi Acting County Elections Manager Aisha Akinyi Abubakar.
In his message of condolences, Marjan said the suspects behind the heinous act should be apprehended.
“The Commission is deeply concerned by this horrendous incident and condemns the perpetrators behind Aisha’s death. As we condole with her family, we call on the country’s security agencies to speedily investigate this heinous occurrence and apprehend her killers,” he said.
The CEO also assured the family of Aisha of their support as they come to terms with her sudden demise.
“We assure the family and friends that we will journey with them during this period of profound sorrow. The IEBC fraternity is saddened by her death and expresses its deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues of Aisha for the tragic loss.”
The 48-year-old elections manager and her 18 year old son Khalid Hassan were attacked at around 3am wile at their home by two suspects.
The son was able to drive the mother to Premier Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival while the son was admitted for treatment.
After the attack, the gang stole electronic goods including the deceased’s phone, a 65-inch TV set, a sound system, and an iPad from the house before escaping.
A police report indicated that one of the attackers wore a face mask.
They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with a crowbar and knife.
The deceased was stabbed and cut on the head above the right eye while the son was cut on the head.
Police later visited the scene of the attack as part of efforts to trace the gang behind the attack and a search is on to bring the perpetrators to book.
