Ida Odinga’s bodyguard shot dead in Kisumu
Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s wife bodyguard was shot dead in Kisumu this morning near the Odinga’s Riat home.
According to preliminary reports, Barrack Otieno Oduor had accompanied a female companion, Marion Ouma, to Victoria Gardens Estate, when the suspect arrived at 3:30 am today and confronted him.
The suspect, one Collins Okundi, a manager of Club Signature Kisumu suddenly appeared a scuffle ensued between the three prompting him to disarm Oduor and shot him thrice
“In the process, Collins Okundi disarmed the police officer and fatally shot him twice in the head and leg,” stated the police report.
Oduor, a police constable, died on the spot, and his body was taken to Star Hospital morgue in Kisumu.
During the shooting, another person, Donar Kajwang, who was also with Oduor and Marion, sustained a gunshot injury in the leg.
Kajwang was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, where he is recuperating.
Police recovered a spent cartridge and bullet head of 9mm were recovered at the scene.
Oduor, Marion and Kajwang had on Thursday evening spent time at Dondez Club.
According to a report filed at the Obunga Police Station, the suspect took off with Oduor’s firearm.
However, Mama Ida Odinga was not with the deceased at the time of shooting.
Police say the shooting suspect fled to an unknown destination, and that pursuit efforts are ongoing.
