Huruma MCA Peter Oluoch charged with forging academic papers
He was released on a Ksh 3 million bond or an alternative of Ksh 100,000 cash bail
Huruma Member of County Assembly Peter Owera Oluoch has been charged with forging his academic papers while seeking an Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) clearance certificate in order to contest in the 2022 general elections.
Appearing at the Milimani Anti-corruption Magistrate Isabella Barasa, the City legislator was charged with five counts, including forgery and giving false information.
In the first count, the Huruma lawmaker was charged for presenting a forged Diploma certificate before the EACC in 2012.
In the second charge, Oluoch was accused of forging a stamp that was embossed in the fake documents presented to EACC.
He was further accused of forging the stamp of an advocate of the high court, Nelson Pinto Atundo purporting to be his lawyer.
The MCA was also charged with forging Atundo’s signature in the self-declaration form, while in the fourth count, he was accused of forging the signature of the Commissioner for Oaths, Andrew Khakula, who is also an advocate of the high court.
In the fifth and last count, the city lawmaker was accused of making a false declaration under part 5 of the Leadership and Integrity Act.
He was released on a Ksh 3 million bond or an alternative of Ksh 100,000 cash bail after his lawyers pleaded with the court that he was willing to obey orders set by the court, adding that he is currently a serving MCA.
“The accused person is a public figure and is willing to comply with the court orders,” his lawyer submitted.
The Huruma MCA was arrested yesterday by sleuths from the EACC for forgery and provision of false information in self-declaration forms.
The MCA, who was seeking a clearance certificate from the anti-graft authority, is accused of sharing a fake Kenya Polytechnic certificate in the self-declaration form.
The anti-graft authority established that the suspect was never a student of the Diploma programme at Kenya Polytechnic.
“EACC arrested Huruma Ward MCA on allegations of forgery and providing false information in the Self-Declaration Forms. Oluoch declared that he held a Diploma from Kenya Polytechnic in the Self-Declaration Form, which upon verification by the Commission, it was established that the suspect was never a student for the Diploma program at Kenya Polytechnic,” EACC said in a statement.
EACC established that he does not hold a diploma and that he forged the signature and stamp impression of an Advocate and Commissioner for Oaths.
