Government to hire more land and environment judges
Chief Justice ( CJ) David Maraga has deplored shortage of Land and Environment Judges, saying the government would employ more and deploy them nationally to handle back log of land cases.
Consequently, Justice Maraga, who visited Kisii, Ogembo and Keroka law courts to assess their Facilities and working conditions of the staff urged residents to settle land cases at home to avoid congesting the courts.
The CJ, who visited the courts for the first time since his appointment appealed to the Court users committee members, elders and leaders to help villagers handle petty and land cases at home to enhance harmony, stressing residents of Meru have adopted the system and has worked.
“ We advocate for alternative means of settle cases and the government has set up mediation courts to hear and finalize succession cases amicably,” noted Justice Maraga, stressing it is wrong for such cases to drag in courts for long.
Accompanied by Kisii Resident Judge, Joseph Karanja, John Mutungi, Land and Environment and chief magistrate, John Njoroge, the CJ said the government would built an eleven chamber court in Kisii county and urged the county government to process letters of allotment for the judiciary to acquire a title Deed to start construction.
