The Nairobi Hospital has announced conclusive plans to set up a satellite out-patient clinic in Athi River, Machakos County.
There is a demand for quality healthcare rising in the suburban counties around Nairobi.
This has made providers to resort to devolving services in tandem with population growth and the attendant geographical expansion of residential and commercial settlements.
This will be the first such satellite clinic outside Nairobi City County and will be located at Crystal Rivers, a Kshs. 4.3Bn flagship commercial and residential complex currently being developed by the Safaricom Staff Pension Scheme just after the Athi River interchange on Mombasa Road.
It brings the total number of clinics in Nairobi and its suburbs to seven.
The Nairobi Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Gordon Odundo said in a statement that its expansive new facility, occupying more than 10,000 square feet, is being established in line with the corporate strategic drive to make its medical services more accessible away from the main hospital.
“We also recognize that there is latent demand for a quality medical facility along Mombasa Road where we expect our clinic to annually serve at least half a million residents of the area” said Odundo adding that the new facility will be a welcome relief from the hassles currently faced by patients with the unending traffic.
Accidents and emergency services in particular are destined to be addressed immediately.
He added that the facility will be a state-of-the art, fully-fledged 24-hour outpatient centre designed to cater for all outpatient needs for the entire family offering a variety of services including Accident and Emergency services, Advanced level diagnostic services – including Laboratory and Radiology services with CT scanning, X-ray and Ultrasound as well as, paediatric services, and a comprehensively stocked and affordable pharmacy.
Odundo reaffirmed that the patient care at The Nairobi Hospital Crystal Rivers outpatient centre will be at par with offered at the main hospital.
Athi River, as the Mavoko sub-county is popularly known, is experiencing sharp growth in residential and commercial settlement estimated to be an annual population growth of 2 percent and creating demand for 1,500 housing units every year.
Safaricom’s Staff Pension Scheme Chairman Joseph Ogutu said that Crystal Rivers Mall, its new iconic commercial hub coming up in Athi River Sub County of Machakos County is set to be completed and ready for occupation within the next five months.
“We recognize that this is an important location, a gateway to Machakos as well the anchor of Athi River and appreciate the fact that The Nairobi Hospital has chosen to locate its outpatient centre at the Crystal Rivers Mall,” said Ogutu.
Many of Nairobi City residents have relocated to the peripheral of the City in search of the stress-free living space for their families leading to tremendous population growth in Syokimau, Athi River, Kitengela and even Embakasi.
