Bomas of Kenya Board Chairman Josiah Magut deny knowledge of alleged corruption, embezzlement of funds claims
The Bomas of Kenya Board chairman Josiah Magut has denied any knowledge of litany of alleged corruption, blatant embezzlement of funds and abuse of office claims that has threatened to paralysis operations at the state owned institution.
When reached for comment, Magut said he is not aware of the claims that adversely implicates some of the board members and high ranking management officials.
One of the board members is said to have influenced award of multiple multi-million tenders to several firms associated with his fiancée.
“Good afternoon, you can drop this letter to my office for appropriate response at Boams. I will respond next week after verifying official information. Thanks” Magut said over the weekend through a Whatsapp text message.
However, Principal Secretary, State Department for Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Zeinab Hussein who is the accounting officer of the ministry under which the parastatal, Bomas of Kenya falls did no comment on the matter when contacted.
Similarly, when the Chief Executive Officer Peter Gitaa was reached by The Informer for comment, he did not respond to short text messages but promised to get back through a telephone conversation.
“Right now, I am not in a position to answer any questionnaire. When I get time, I will look into it.” Gitaa said while speaking to us on phone.
According to impeccable sources, a Board of Directors official who wields power and influence and two other senior managers, one domiciled in the Accounts Department are accused of blatant embezzlement of taxpayers’ money through exaggerated or fictitious allowances and per diems.
They are also accused of using the institution’s money to pay for air ticket of non-staff members abroad.
Insiders intimated that tens of millions of shillings have been paid out through fictitious supplies and exaggerated construction contracts that have gone unabated.
