Garissa OCS detained for ten days pending murder investigations
A court has ordered Garissa-based OCS Michael Munyalo Wambua be detained for ten days pending the outcome of Morris Kimathi murder investigation.
Garissa senior resident magistrate Timothy Ole Tanju denied bail application and ordered that the police chief be held at the Madogo police station.
“Given that the respondent has remained in the office since the day of the alleged incident, and for the reasons stated in the affidavit,” the Magistrate said, “I’m inclined to grant the applicant 10 days to complete the investigations,” he said.
Wambua was today arraigned in court on murder allegations that happened on Saturday night in DRC area along Bula Sheikh Road.
The prosecution asked the magistrate on Thursday to detain the police chief for 14 days, arguing that witnesses to the case were dispersed across the country and it would be difficult to reach them.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was shot in the back as he crossed the road, just moments after an altercation with Munyalo at a bar.
Confirming the incident, Garissa County Commander Ranson Lolmodoni said that they visited the scene and have already forwarded the case to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI).
“We attended the scene and in fact, it is our officers who took the body to the morgue. So we are waiting for the next of kin to come to identify the body,” said Lolmodoni.
According to the deceased’s wife, Stellah Makena, Kimanthi was shot dead following a tussle at the DRC Club.
