Gachagua to President Ruto: Don’t dare step in Meru if you remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office
Impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched fresh scathing attack directed to his former boss and ally turned foe, President William Ruto alleging the latter is orchestrating a plan to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office.
Gachagua also criticised the leadership of Meru County for their continued silence even after the planned ouster of CJ Koome.
He also lashed out at his successor, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki accusing him of using public resources to mobilise and parade people in his Karen residence instead of focusing on ground development.
He accused Ruto’s administration of being uneasy with Koome’s leadership, arguing that the Judiciary is under attack because the Chief Justice refuses to be a “Yes Leader.”
Speaking during a Church Service at AIPCA Antubetwe Kiongo Church in Igembe North Constituency, Meru county, the former DP has hit out at the Meru county leaders for focusing on politics other than development and allowing the demotion and persecution of the region’s leaders.
“If you chase our Martha Koome, don’t set foot in Meru. You chased Rigathi Gachagua, and the Mt. Kenya people were silent—you thought they were cowards,” Gachagua said.
The former DP has added that Chief Justice Koome is being persecuted for her hard stand and warned that her removal from office will be met with picketing and demonstrations.
“Let us respect each other. The Meru people have been taken for granted for too long, and it must come to an end. As we speak, the President is planning to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office. He started by kicking me out of his government, and he also did the same to Mithika Linturi…When you kicked me out of your government, the people from the Mountain remained silent, and you thought they were fearful. We dare you to continue with the plan of removing Justice Koome because she has refused to be a ‘Yes, sir’ person,” he warned.
On the ongoing purge of his allies from lucrative positions in parliament, Gachagua criticised his former boss claiming he is punishing the region despite their support in the 2022 general election.
While revisiting the economic forum engagement the Kenya Kwanza government rode on during the campaign, the former deputy president has said that the government should be focusing on implementing the promises they pledged but instead are now having development consultations to ask for the challenges of the county.
Further, the former impeached DP asked the leaders to talk about Miraa, water and other developments in the country while ensuring that all promises pledged are kept.
He reiterated that his New party will be unveiled in May and he’s confident that he will have more than 120 members of parliament in the 2027 elections.
