Gachagua defies claimed truce pleas, escalate attack on DP Kindiki
The Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has escalated his attacks on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, dismissing calls to ease his criticism and vowing to hold him accountable over past actions.
Speaking during a church service in Murang’a County today, Gachagua claimed that Kindiki had reached out through an intermediary seeking a softer approach. However, he said he would not relent, citing what he described as serious grievances linked to Kindiki’s tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary.
“Yesterday, Professor Kindiki sent a friend to talk to me, saying that we are too harsh on him and that we should go slow on him and forgive him if we have wronged him,” Gachagua told the congregation. “We have no problem. We forgive you for your sins. But there are two things we are unable to forgive you for, and we must come for you.”
Gachagua accused Kindiki of overseeing alleged excesses during the 2024 Gen Z protests and failing to sustain the fight against illicit brews, which he said had been endangering lives.
He further alleged that the crackdown on illicit alcohol had been deliberately undermined despite initial progress. According to Gachagua, the programme had the potential to save lives but was disrupted during Kindiki’s tenure at the Interior Ministry.
“I’m unable to forgive you for sabotaging the war on illicit brews that has been killing our people. That war was successful,” he said, adding that the effort had been derailed.
In his remarks, Gachagua also linked President William Ruto to the alleged failures, vowing continued political pressure over the issues he raised.
