Fuel prices go up in latest review by EPRA

EPRA noted that the prices are inclusive of all applicable taxes, including the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT).

Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will cost Sh8.99, Sh8.67 and Sh9.65 high respectively for the next 30 days.

This was announced yesterday by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in their mid-month review for July.

The price that took effect yesterday midnight will be in force until the 14th of next month.

“Under Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th July 2025 to 14th August 2025,” EPRA announced in a statement.

EPRA noted that the prices are inclusive of all applicable taxes, including the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT).

“The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” EPRA added.

With the review, the retail prices for Nairobi are Shh186.31 per litre for super petrol, Sh171.58 for diesel, and Sh156.58 for kerosene.

“In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene now retail at Sh186.31, Sh171.58, and Sh156.58, effective midnight for the next 30 days,” the statement further added.

The energy sector regulator attributed the new pump prices to a notable jump in the average landed cost of petroleum imports over the past month.

“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 6.45 per cent from US$590.24 per cubic metre in May 2025 to US$628.30 per cubic metre in June 2025; Diesel increased by 6.27per cent from US$580.23 per cubic metre to US$616.59 per cubic metre while Kerosene increased by 6.95 per cent from US$569.00 per cubic metre to US$608.54 per cubic metre over the same period,” the regulator stated.
