Four killed as Nyar Ugenya bus rams into a truck along Muhoroni-Londiani road
Four people were yester night fatally injured while fifty-six others left with serious injuries after a bus they were traveling in was involved in a crash along the Londiani-Muhoroni road.
Four people were on Monday night killed while 56 others were left with serious injuries after a bus they were traveling in was involved in a crash along the Londiani-Muhoroni road.
The accident occurred when the Nairobi-bound bus of the Nyar Ugenya Sacco had a head-on collision with a truck that was headed to Muhoroni.
A police report seen by The Informer Media Group indicated that the passenger bus veered off the road on the left side toward Londiani direction, ramming into the truck and a sugarcane farm.
“The bus veered off the road on the left side as one faces the Londiani direction, into a sugarcane farm,” the police report stated in part.
The dead were a male passenger and three females died. The injured were rushed to St Vincent Mission Hospital, Koru Mission Hospital and Muhoroni Sub County Hospital.
Four others were transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) Kisumu for specialised treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to St Vincent de Paul Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending postmortem examination and identification by the next of kin.
Photos from the scene seen by The Informer Media Group indicate the bus was heavily damaged on the left side, highlighting the severity of the impact with shattered windows too.
The crash comes a few days after three South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) students were killed in a tragic accident involving a motorcycle and a truck ferrying sand.
The three students died on the spot in the Kwa Vonza area of Kitui County.
Police reports indicated that the students were riding on the motorcycle from Kwa Vonza market to their residence within SEKU when they crashed into the back of a sand truck along the Kwa Vonza – Kitui Road.
The truck had stalled due to a mechanical failure and had been parked by the roadside, eyewitnesses told the police.
The trio is reported to have been speeding the motorcycle before ramming into the truck while attempting to overtake it.
These are among the accidents reported this year that have left casualties and fatalities.
