Former TSC Nancy Macharia decline Murang’a job offer
Former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has declined her nomination to be the chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board.
In a letter to Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Macharia revealed that she received a job offer at the World Bank, hence her decision to decline the offer.
“I hereby thank you for nominating me. However, I decline the post as I have received another offer from an international body, which, in my opinion, could affect my performance in the said role,” Macharia said.
The former TSC boss said she had initially taught the World Bank job was part-time but has since been informed it will be full-time.
Kang’ata’s administration said it has lost an opportunity for Macharia to mentor the board members of the county, whereas they would have also drawn lessons from her on matters of promotion.
“Nancy Macharia has declined our nomination on the basis that she has received another engagement for consulting for the World Bank. Whereas we wish her well, the county feels it has lost the services of an experienced leader who would have mentored other board members,” a statement by the county government read in part.
It added that Macharia would have served the people of her county diligently and freely without asking for allowance.
In a communication to the Murang’a County Assembly mid this month, Governor Irungu Kang’ata had nominated Macharia to chair the Murang’a County Public Service Board.
Governor Kang’ata also nominated Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, Brian Lishenga Makamu, and Oscar Kimani Gathura (Secretary) to the board.
“Pursuant to Section 6 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act 2017 and Section 58A (7) of the County Governments Act, 2012, the County Assembly received notification that the Governor of Murang’a County Government, Irungu Kang’ata, has nominated the following as Chairperson, Members, and Secretary to the Murang’a County Public Service Board,” the Speaker made the communication.
Macharia was scheduled to appear before the Murang’a County Assembly today, at 10:00 am for vetting.
Her tenure at TSC is set to formally at the end of this month, next week Monday.
The former TSC CEO proceeded to a terminal leave at the beginning of this month and was replaced by Eveleen Mitei in an acting capacity.
