Former Laikipia senatorial aspirant Steve Chege dies in car accident
Ex-Laikipia county senatorial aspirant and student leader Steve Chege died while receiving treatment, hours after being involved in a car accident along the Northern bypass yesterday.
According to sources, Chege tried to evade a bodaboda motorist who made a wrong turn along the highway which sent his car spinning in the air and landing in a ditch a few metres away.
He was taken to the Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) where doctors took him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he had lost a huge amount of blood.
His death was announced by Kiriga Githaiga who said that he was with the family at the hospital where he was admitted.
“It is with profound shock and acceptance of God’s will that we have received the sad news of Steve’s demise. We are still at KU referral hospital following up. The family is here with us at the hospital. Kindly keep them in prayers,” he stated.
Chege was a vibrant member of the Jubilee Youth League, that is a group of patriotic junior leaders that help coordinate the party’s grassroot activities.
Chege has been mourned as a promising young man who had great dreams for leadership.
His accident is one amongst many accidents that have recently been recorded in the country.
A recently occurred accident claimed three lives and left others injured after a drunk driver rammed into a tuktuk which crashed into a matatu at Kamakis area along the Eastern bypass.
According to National Police Spokesperson (NPS) Bruno Shioso, the service reported a total of 15,924 road crash casualties countrywide from January 1, 2022, to September 26, 2022 where 3,541 were fatally injured, 7,236 were critically injured, and 5,147 were only slightly hurt.
