FIDA calls upon security agencies to probe LSK chaos

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya) has called upon the National Police Service and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chaos.
The organisation said that the current wrangling at the LSK has not only paralyzed operations at the Secretariat but has also greatly affected service delivery to members who include FIDA-Kenya membership.
“We further call upon the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to conduct speedy investigations and prosecution of those found responsible for the violence on August 10th, 2021, against LSK Council Members and staff at the Secretariat,” said the organisation.
The women lawyers condemned the violence meted on several LSK members and secretariat officials who included women at the council office two days ago.
They termed the factional fight at the society as retrogressive and sets a very bad precedent which is negatively castigating the legal profession.
The organisation urged the LSK officials to seek an amicable solution to salvage the society’s reputation.
“We call for a speedy and amicable solution to the situation at the ISK in a manner as prescribed by law as opposed to resorting to violence,” read the statement.
Leadership wrangles at the LSK escalated two days after a faction led by President Nelson Havi and another by CEO Mercy Wambua clashed over access to the premises.
Havi was unhappy that some officers had come to assist the employees whose services he said have been terminated.
He wondered why the government was interfering.
Wambua had been assisted by police officers from Dagoretti to access the main gate only to find four council members blocking the office entrance.
Havi and his team claimed the police were breaking the law as they did not have court orders authorising them to get into LSK compound.
Armed police officers, break-ins and a bitter exchange of words played out at the LSK offices in Gitanga Road, Nairobi as two warring factions engaged in a fistfight.
